It’s not that any of us here at Jubilee Los Lunas, New Mexico’s premier retirement community, need an excuse to party. It’s something we do quite well! We simply find many things to celebrate…many reasons to get together…from backyard barbeques to big events at our luxurious Villa - holidays, football playoffs, Cinco de Mayo, wine parties, anniversaries and so much more.
So, it should come as no surprise that we’ve found one more reason to party…and one more reason to enjoy red wine! More and more evidence is pointing to the health benefits of red wine. According to Wine Folly, red wine can help us become stronger, stay younger and live longer! Sounds like a reason to party to us!
Studies show that red wine is loaded with antioxidants…more than acai berries and pomegranate seeds! The benefit of antioxidants is the reduction of inflammation, which can lead heart disease and cancer. Red wine also contains resveratrol, which comes from grape skins. Because red wine is fermented longer than white wine, reds contain more resveratrol. Reports credit resveratrol with reducing one’s risk of cancer, heart disease and neurodegenerative disease.
From all that we’ve read, it would appear that many studies need to be done for researchers to make solid claims about the benefits of red wine. Meanwhile, we, the willing residents of Jubilee Los Lunas, are perfectly happy testing the theories! Since dark red wines, such as Petit Sirah and Sagrantino, appear to have more benefits that lighter reds, we may just need to try new varieties, challenge our wine palates and party more frequently! It’s the least we can do to help further the research!
As Groucho Marx once said, “I shall drink no wine before its time. Okay. It’s time!”
