SENIOR OLYMPICS COMING TO ALBUQUERQUE!

Senior Olympics

The Senior Olympics remind us that youth isn’t a prerequisite for a fun-filled, active, fit and competitive lifestyle.

For New Mexicans, that reminder will be underscored at the New Mexico Senior Olympics State Summer Games, which will be held July 19-23 in Albuquerque.

Expected to draw 900+ active senior adult competitors from across the U.S., the event is a precursor to the 2019 National Senior Olympics, which will also be held in Albuquerque.

The summer games will be held at variety of Albuquerque venues to accommodate the 26 events, which include badminton, table tennis, archery, bowling, golf, pickleball, racquetball, tennis and swimming, just to name a few. Spectators are welcome to come and watch their favorite events.

Opening day, July 19th, kicks off at 8:00 am with a full day of competitive activities at the various venues. In addition, competitors and the public are invited to attend a health fair (health information, health screening, senior leisure activities and free giveaways) from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm at Balloon Fiesta Park. The public is also invited to join the athletes for the exciting opening ceremonies at 7:00 pm at Balloon Fiesta Park, featuring the “Celebration of Athletes” and the running of the Olympic Torch.

Senior OlympicsIn addition to providing seniors 50 years and older the opportunity to compete at a local, state and national level, the games are designed to improve and maintain the health and wellness of seniors, focus attention on the importance of regular exercise and constructive activity, and celebrate the vitality of life.

Nowhere is that more apparent than at Jubilee Los Lunas, New Mexico’s premier active adult community and a proud sponsor of the New Mexico Senior Olympics State Summer Games. With roughly 20 Senior Olympians as residents, Jubilee will be well represented at the Summer Games, competing as cyclists, sprinters, swimmers, archers, pickleball players and more. Many have already proven themselves as past Senior Olympics medal winners, and are working hard to gain a competitive edge in July!
